Leslie L. Smith

Biographical Information

Leslie L. Smith (1969-2019) received his MA in Educational Theater and a BA in Creative Writing, both at New York University.  Most recently PressLess published his acclaimed and controversial novel, Sally Field Can Play The Transsexual, Or I Was Cursed By Polly Holiday.

His 1997 film David Searching, starring Anthony Rapp, Camryn Manheim, and Julie Halston, played theaters in limited commercial release.  It was screened at more than 35 film festivals across the world and distributed internationally on video. David Searching now belongs to the permanent collection at the Outfest/UCLA Legacy Project Film Archive.  As New York City theater director, producer and playwright, Smith was a member of the League of Off-Broadway Theaters and Producers and previously served on the Administration Committee for the Lucille Lortel Awards.

Smith is the editor of Leaving The Rest: Gay Men On Alcoholism, Addiction, And Sobriety, available from Magnus/Riverdale Avenue Books. He has written for numerous publications, including dot429, A & U, PremiereMovielineOUTPOZ Magazine, NEXT and The Advocate.

He lives in Phoenix, AZ where he is pursuing a PhD at Arizona State University's School of Arts, Media and Engineering.
