I stood hand-in-hand with Malcolm X,
Ceaser Chavez, Harvey Milk and Maya Angelou.

Today at PHX Skyharbor
I stood hand-in-hand with Africans,
Mexicans, Mid-Easterners, and all those you dislike.

Today at PHX Skyharbor
I stood hand-in-hand with those in Battery Park,
SFO, Boston, Little Rock, and Portland.

Today in each of these places,
With each of these people,
We make you a promise.

You may choose to hate us,
But we never will.
You may choose to hate me,
But I never will.

And tomorrow wherever it is needed,
This gay man will stand with all the women,
All the races, and all the religions.

For we have each other
We are Ms. Angelou’s Human Family
And we will protect our family as fiercely
As you would your own.
